When planning for our 3rd and final new home build I was lucky enough to find Highland Homes in my online search! Their beautifully designed website was informative and accurately portrayed how easy and fun building a home with Highland would be. From that day almost 4 years ago, when I requested the custom home guide online, we have been met with professionalism, kindness and a thorough understanding of the entire process. After a few emails from our home in Oregon, we arranged a visit to one of their beautiful model homes and fell in love with what they do so well. Our first contact was with Kristin and she was helpful and patient but never pushy. While we have some experience with the build process, I am admittedly pretty detail driven and had a lot of questions. She happily worked with us even knowing our timeline was likely so far in the future. Fortunately for us, our lives took some turns allowing us to build a bit sooner and we are now only a few months from completion! Okay I admit I am pretty thorough, and I felt like I had to do my due-diligence, so we interviewed 3 other potential builders and Highland beat them hands-down in every area. At that point, in addition to the obviously superior home they build, it was the communication, experience and the feeling like we mattered that really stood out. Their floor plan options were all beautiful and to be able to view their model homes (virtually and in person) really helped us understand the quality we could expect! While we could have done a completely custom home, we loved one of their model homes so much that we used that and then tweaked it quite a bit. Kristin was able to share what others had done too so we could use those tips and build upon them. Then Angie helped us put it all on paper. She patiently worked with the plans to move this and that to help us really make this home perfect for us! We have been thinking about this house for a long time and wanted to be involved and experience it all. But I know we didn’t have to. They are the experts and I trust that the Highland Process really works. Trust is key. Any home is a big investment and while Highland Homes is not a low-cost builder you totally get what you pay for. Their quality in workmanship and materials is obvious throughout. The level of care and attention given to our project is also evident. I work in the service industry myself and genuinely appreciate that good service is not just ‘a given’ anymore. Once we had our start date, we got to experience the pre-construction phase with Amanda. She was terrific and so helpful in keeping us on track. During this time, we got to choose all of our finishes and fixtures with the very talented Christine. It was a fun and surprisingly tiring process, but Christine helped us at every step. These two ladies totally appreciate the details as well! As we have moved into the construction phase we have continued to be impressed. Their online portal for tracking our communication and progress has been a wonderful tool to have. We have been able to manage our build from another state and still feel totally plugged into what’s happening. But now I must mention our project management team, Braden and Tucker. Like with everyone at Highland these guys are just terrific to work with. Beginning with Tucker’s willingness to meet us at our ‘not so conveniently located’ lot on a Saturday morning to discuss moving dirt and onto the excellent daily management of our home with Braden. Braden is our current lifeline and has seemed to step easily into that role. We are glued to our portal each Friday to see the latest photos he has uploaded and really appreciate his allowing us to feel so connected. Braden is on top of it all! Honestly, I am not sure things could be going better except maybe time could move faster so we can get to Idaho quicker. Until then, we feel so good about our decision to trust Highland Homes with this important next chapter of our life! It would have been easy to write a glowing review of Highland Homes (HH) immediately after moving into our new house. However, we decided to wait until we had lived in the house awhile to avoid any bias generated by that "new house" feel. Now, after being here over 10 months, we think we can offer a complete assessment of this company. If you choose not to read beyond this paragraph, know that waiting nearly a year to submit this review did not diminish just how highly we think of HH and the people that work there. Our experience with Highland Homes started in February 2018 when we initially decided to move from Virginia to the Boise region. Knowing little of the area, we researched likely builders, looking for floor plans and developments that might suit our needs. HH intrigued us with the many plans displayed on their website, so we registered with them to view all their offerings. As expected, we were contacted almost immediately by Nichelle Floth, their land sale specialist. After explaining we were only in the early stages of our move, Nichelle was very understanding, keeping us up-to-date over the next several months without flooding us with info. Later, on our first two trips to Boise, Nichelle proved to be a fantastic tour guide, presenting multiple listings in the metro area until we finally found the perfect location for us. Not only was she extremely helpful in finding us a place to build, Nichelle's outgoing personality confirmed we had made the right choice in making Idaho our next home. Nichelle turned us over to Kristin Pugh who would spend the next few months with us to finalize a design. Kristin was another valuable resource, providing excellent recommendations on where to find unique design ideas. Her ability to take our rough inputs and ensure they were incorporated into the exterior and interior designs was simply incredible. And Kristin's patience as we made modifications and changes to our selections was greatly appreciated by us. Working with her was an absolute pleasure and reaffirmed our decision to move to Boise. Once the design was finalized, Anna Froberg would guide us through the construction phase. She conducted much research for us as we made our final selections and additional changes to the specifications. Anna was also extremely patient with us, gently nudging us for a decision, especially when we might have caused a delay to the project. Managing changes to the overall price, she ensured we stayed within our budget. Anna also introduced us to Co-Construct, a vital communications tool, particularly we did not live nearby. Tucker Wilkins, our Construction Manager, could not have been more helpful during the construction process. While building a home remotely is not optimum (at least for the buyer), Tucker made it as transparent as possible. In addition to regular messaging, he often sent us pictures showing the progress of the build. Most importantly, Tucker successfully resolved several unique challenges related to our lot. Knowing he was overseeing the project provided us a high level of confidence the house was being built just as we envisioned it. Since moving into our new home, the Warranty Manager Riann Leisle has been our main point-of-contact. Though few warranty issues have arisen, Riann has kept in touch to remind us she is standing by if needed. When we have submitted a request, she has ensured each problem was quickly resolved. Riann has been an exceptional interface between us and the various subcontractors to fix warranty items. Finally, a few words about Highland Homes’ CEO and founder, Mike Dildine. It was obvious from the start that Mike would invest himself in every aspect of our project. On each of our trips to Boise, he made himself available to discuss any concerns and answer our questions. Mike not only made us an integral part of the project team, he made us a part of the HH family. We enthusiastically recommend Highland Homes to build your next home in the Boise area. These guys are AWESOME to work with. Everybody on the team was very nice, professional, and knew their jobs well. One unique thing about Highland is you are required to pick out EVERYTHING before they will break ground. This caused a delay in the start, but I think in the end it saved time and DEFINITELY saved headaches. Once you DO start, things happen very fast. As with any new construction, some things don't go exactly as intended but it really is how it's handled that makes the difference. Curtis, John and Jared handled all of the situations very fairly and fixed all issues that occurred. As John points out, home construction is one of the few things that are still done by hand, and as such, there WILL be things that occur. That's true for $50k to $5M homes. I can say without a doubt that if we were to build another home, these guys would be who I'd contract to do it. 11/2/19 - Just wanted to update.. Highland continues to be great to work with. We've been in the house now for 6 months and they continue to be extrememly responsive to the small warranty issues that arise. Their subs are prompt, courteous, and take care of what's needed. The highland team really is excellent. Brenda Tate31/07/2019Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We recently purchased a Highland Home that was built a year and a half ago. We love the custom design and wanted to add some additional matching beams. I contacted 2 of their contractors and they have been so helpful in providing the type of wood and stain used as well as recommendations for finish carpenters they would trust to do the work. Thank you Highland Homes!!! Braxton Fabrizio27/05/2019Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
